On the test I use the Cisco Catalyst 6509-E with WS-SUP720-3BXL control module installed.
There is a second similar control module WS-SUP720-3BXL.
You can install the second module without shutting down Cisco on hot, which I actually did.
The “show log” command shows detailed information about the installation process, similar to the following:
%OIR-SP-6-INSCARD: Card inserted in slot 5, interfaces are now online
…
Information about installed modules and their status can be seen by entering the commands:
show module
show inventory
After installation, the module was successfully launched, and the configuration was automatically synchronized with the active one.
